The Eastern Ontario Armwrestling circuit is a series of events designed to promote the sport of armwrestling across the eastern Ontario region. At least 5 events will be scheduled in eastern Ontario in 2007 culminating with the Eastern Ontario Armwrestling Championships to be held in Ottawa on November 17th.
These tournaments are open to all competitors, but the people who would benefit most are the ones who are new to the sport. They are great opportunities for gaining experience and confidence.
With the exception of the Eastern Ontario Armwrestling Championships, all circuit tournaments will be double elimination and the weight classes and entry fees will be the same. Standard Canadian Arm Wrestling Federation rules will be used (view the rules).
The weight classes will be:
Men’s Right 0-170 lbs
Men’s Right 171-200 lbs
Men’s Right 201+ lbs
Men’s Left 0-170 lbs
Men’s Left 171-200 lbs
Men’s Left 201+ lbs
Women’s Right Open
The entry fees for competitors who have previously competed in an Eastern Ontario Armwrestling event will be $15 for the first category and $10 for each additional category. First time competitors can compete for FREE. There will be awards for the top three finishers in each class.
The Eastern Ontario Armwrestling Championships will be a triple elimination event featuring beautiful awards for the top 5 finishers in each class. The weight classes will be the same. The entry fees will be $25 per category. There will also be awards for the most sportsmanlike competitor and the best match of the day.
Special awards will also be presented to the top 3 point earners of the circuit tournaments. Points are accumulated through a combination of participation and placement. One point is awarded for each arm the competitor pulls with at a tournament. For instance, if a competitor pulls will both the right and left arms, he automatically earns 2 points. However, if he pulls more than one class with the same arm, he only earns 1 point for that arm. Additional points are awarded to armwrestlers who finish in the top five in their category. 1st place = 5 points; 2nd place = 4 points; 3rd place = 3 points; 4th place = 2 points; 5th place = 1 point. If a competitor pulls two categories with the same arm, he is only awarded points for one category (the one with the higher placing). Please note that points can only be earned at the qualification circuit tournaments -- the Eastern Ontario Championships will not count.
Time permitting, after each event there will be a free practice/seminar for anyone interested in learning more about the technique/training involved in armwrestling.
Some events, such as the first tournament of the year in Ottawa, with feature a grip strength competition in addition to armwrestling. There will be two weight classes for these events (Men 0-185 lbs; Men 186+ lbs) and the entry fee will be $10. Awards will be awarded to the top three finishers in each class. Specific events will vary, but they are designed to test all aspects of lower arm strength. The grip strength challenge will always take place after the armwrestling tournament is complete.
